This online workshop will look at the challenges of directing a play online – from the passing of props to creating intimacy within a scene.  Let’s explore this new performing space together through play and experimentation.

Improvising the Play

We are improvising every day of our lives so we are already experts, but how can we harness this and use it within the rehearsal process to develop characters and subtext? 

Archetypes

Taking a physical approach, we will explore the most common archetypes found in stories and see how they might be useful for actors and directors in the rehearsal room.

Devising theatre

How do you create something from scratch?  We will explore a range of approaches to working collaboratively without a script. Although aimed at young people and their adult collaborators, it can easily be adapted for adult groups.

A chorus of approval

Suitable for performers and directors; we will identify the building blocks for creating effective chorus moments that go beyond standard groupings and the dreaded semi-circle lines.

Just say yes

Improvisation can be a fun and rewarding way to explore characters and situations.  It is particularly useful for exploring character aims and subtext.  Many people find this daunting but it is a great skill to develop This workshop is suitable for actors and directors.
